More than 70 suspects have been arrested as part of our latest intensification efforts to tackle violence, abuse and intimidation against women and girls (VAIWG) in Staffordshire. We’ve been focussing our efforts on safeguarding those most at risk and protecting the vulnerable in local communities in education and enforcement activity, resulting in 78 arrests and a number of community venues visited by officers giving tailored advice and support to those at risk. The activity comes after convictions and prison terms were secured against two offenders in Staffordshire in the last few days. One 42-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to the rape of a woman and two counts of voyeurism following an investigation, while a second offender, a 21-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, was locked up for 15 years after he was found guilty of two counts of rape, one count of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of intentional strangulation. He also pleaded guilty to another count of assault by beating at an earlier hearing. Inspector Karen Cooke co-ordinates the weeks of action against VAIWG. She said: “While we regularly plan and carry out intensification periods to identify victims and to act against offenders, I want to be clear that activity is taking place every single day across Staffordshire to combat violence, abuse and intimidation against women and girls. “We want to continue being visible and accessible to victims of this type of crime, making sure we get out there as much as we can to speak to those at risk and offer the right support in a safe environment." | ||
